Solomon was a successful farmer who raised and sold grain. He gave each of his 5 sons a good tract of land and other things needed for a good start in life.
Following was found on Internet and supposedly written by a grandchild: "Grandfather was a successful farmer. He almost invariably raised grain to sell. An antedote is related to him in that connection. During a time of great scarcity, Howell Gilliam went to him to buy corn. Grandfather asked him if he had the money to pay for it. Gilliam said he had it. Grandfather said to him, " I see you have a good horse. I have some poor neighbors who have neither money or horse and I can't afford to see them suffer. You can get corn elsewhere and they cannot. Gilliam who was said to be a little skeptical with regard to religion told someone whom he met soon afterward that he found a Christian, because a man who would not take money for anything, but would sell on time or give it away was bound to be
one." (Marsh Family Reunion @ Gilboa Church, Marshville, NC 1902)
On 9/24/1794, it was entered that Solomon purchased 150 acres on Craver Branch of Lanes Creek.
In 1817 Solomon bought property from James and Isaac Harrel which was located on both sides of Lanes Creek. He then purchased property in Anson Co. NC in 1820 from Hosea Little, who may have been his brother-in-law. This property was described to be at "Thompson Creek."
There are other Marshes from Lanes Creek that were more than likely descendants of Solomon or his brother Ebenezer: James A. Marsh b. 1839, res. 1880 Lanes Creek, Union Co. James had 3 sons, Simeon B. b. 1862, Soloman S. b. 1866 and Henry S. b. 1878 who resided at Lanes Creek in the1880 census. With names like that, we can assume they were related to Solomon.
One source says that children Simeon & Eunice were the children of Solomon's first wife, ? Fereby. The rest of the children were born to his 2nd wife.
