William may have gone by the name of Stephen William. This is what he is referred to in different records.
I have also seen Wm.'s death date as 4/4/1813. In one record held at the Historical Museum at Cuttingsville, VT, it is claimed that Wm. was a Revolutionary soldier. This is doubtful since he was only 13 yrs. of age at the time. He was also referred to as Captain. Was he captain in the War of 1812 or is this an error?
William Marsh was listed on the tax roll for Clarendon, VT in 1785 and was in Clarendon during the 1790 census. So he may have moved to Shrewsbury bet. 1790 - 1792. However, I have also seen a claim that he was living in Shrewsbury in the 1790 federal census. His land in Shrewsbury was on the eastern part of the Shunpike (J. Riley 1869 map). There were also two other Marsh families in the 1790 Census for Clarendon: Josiah & Reuben. It is not known whether they were related.
In 1807, William met with many other men in Shrewsbury's new meeting house and signed a petition to begin a Universalist church.
William may have been a representative to Vermont's General Assembly in 1798 & 1799.
William was considered the most successful farmer and individual, along with Dr. Asahel Holton at Shrewsbury, VT in 1813. William owned 400 acres in Shrewsbury and Mt. Holly valued at $4000 when he died and a personal worth of $2857. Here is a listing of his inventory as listed in " SHREWSBURY, VT: OUR TOWN AS IT WAS" By Dawn D. Hance:
51 bu. of wheat
22 bu. of rye
80 bu. of potatoes
40l wt. of cheese
large herd of cows
10 pair of oxen
4 pairs of steers
9 shoats (weaned young pigs)
Furniture:
bureau
desk (rare for the times)
bookcase (only person of his town owning one)
3 looking glasses (mirrors), only other person owning some was the doctor
tin stove ( only person)
Books in addition to the Bible (owning books was rare):
"Statutes of Vermont"
"Law Magazine"
In 1813 an epidemic of lung fever (cholera?) ravaged much of New England, NY & Canada. Soldiers of the War of 1812 carried the disease throughout VT. Shrewsbury lost 30 citizens, including Wm. who died April 4, 1813 at 49 yrs. and Dr. Asahel Holton. People usually died within 24 hrs. after the onslaught. Needless to say, the grief in this community was overwhelming. Wm. had been married less than 3 years to Amy Waldo when he died. There were also at least 3 Canadian cousins who died of the disease also in April 1813 -- Mary Marsh Soper, Samuel Wm. Marsh & Jonathan Sexton.
The above mentioned book also stated that Esq. Marsh's expenses and funeral cost $55.94, probably considered a great amount of money for that day.
William was buried at Finney Cemetery which was established in 1808, five yrs. prior to his death.

Sewall/Sewell Genealogy and Related Families http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/6378/ immigrated, abt 1640
http://www.robertsewell.ca/sewell.html#rjs
Baptized at Coventry, Warwickshire, April 8, 1576. He emigrated to New England in 1637 where he joined his son, {Rev} Henry Sewall at Newbury, Massachusetts, and moved a few years later to the nearby town of Rowley. Henry was known to have alienated his relatives. He was brought before the grand jury for various offences including beating his wife, using contemptuous speech and disturbing the worship in the church. He is said to have been occasionally a little deranged. In contemporary records he is referred to as Mr. Showell (Shewell)
He married first to Mary Cawarden, daughter and heiress of Thomas Cawarden of Manesgyu, Ridwere. He married second to Anne Hunt 1614. Anne was born 1590 and died before July 1, 1615. He married third, on December 16, 1615 to Ellen Mosley Nugent who he later separated from in 1635. Henry was accused of beating Ellen circa 1637 or 1638; so there may have been some form reconciliation and Ellen may have come with him to New England in 1637. Records of Henrys derangement date from the 1640s and 50s.
