It is said that John settled very early (Abt. 1785) in the vicinity of Marsh Hill near Ferrisburg, VT, and that his son, Daniel, came to this same area about two years later. This place where Dainiel settled was formerly settled by Abel Thompson. It is also said that John Marsh was the first settler on the place now owned by John Berkett. Also, John was said to have settled on Marsh Hill in the Ferrisburg area.
Later, John may have lived in Vergennes, VT, where his brother Amos also lived. However, there is a John Marsh living in Ferrisburg in the 1820 census. It is believed that at least two sons, Daniel & John Read, also lived at Vergennes.
