I have also seen Simeon's birth date as 6/15/1729.
There is no trace of what happened to Simeon between 1753-1790. Could he have gone with his brother, Rev. William, when he went to Wantage, NJ? It was said that Simeon's mother-in-law had been a member of Wm.'s church.
Simeon lived briefly at New Fairfield, Fairfield, CT where at least one of his children was born in 1757. His brother, Elihu, also lived at New Fairfield in this same time frame from about 1753 - 1761, and then moved to New Milford. Also it is wondered whether Simeon went to NJ with brother, Rev. Wm., later following him to the Wyoming Valley, PA (near Wilkes-Barr), where Wm. was killed by Indians in 1763.
Simeon & family may have moved to New York. His wife's family had settled at Oblong, Duchess, NY. It was said that his son, John Lothrop, was from NY prior to going to New Brunswick, Canada, in 1783.
It is not known whether Simeon fought in the Revolution but his two eldest sons did. Both may have fought on the Loyalist side. It is not known where or when Simeon died, but it may have been before 1790. One descendant claims he died in 1801, while others say death date is unknown. He may have died rather young since it appears that he had only 4 children and none born after 1764. It is also wondered whether he was killed by Indians in the Wyoming Valley of Penn. along with brothers, Thomas & Rev. Wm. in 1863. It wasn't until after his death that his widow and three sons migrated to NC, first settling near Charlotte, NC in Mecklenburg County and then to Union Co., NC which was then a part of Anson Co. It was in 1817 that his son, Solomon, purchased his first known property in Anson Co., settling at Lanes Creek near Gilboa Methodist Church in Marshville Twp. (now in Union Co.), which was probably named after the sons of Simeon. There were several Marshes buried at the Gilboa Methodist burial ground.
Simeon may have been born 1/12/1729 according to a descendant, Carolyn Haney McLean, e-mail:
denverddm@aol.com.
It appears that a Simeon Marsh's property on Lanes Creek was sold in 1824 to Hosea Little, and Solomon's property on Thompson Creek was sold to the same man in 1820. Was this Simeon the son of Solomon and grandson of Simeon? However, another record indicates that it was Solomon who purchased property in 1817 from the Harrels on both sides of Lanes Creek. So perhaps 3 yrs later, it was sold to Hosea Little. Also, a record indicated that Solomon purchased the property in 1820 on Thompson Creek rather than selling it.
In the 1850 census for Anson Co., NC, there were two Marshes listed who were probably descendants of Simeon: Edward J. Marsh, 24, who was a clerk and William Marsh. William may have been his grandson and Edward may have been a g-grandson.
At some point, some of the descendants of Simeon moved to Miss., TN, Alabama and later to TX, true at least of the Elizabeth Marsh Perkins descendants (granddaughter of Simeon).
There was a William Marsh from NC serving as Pvt... in the Rev. War who was b. 1/15/1759 and d. 11/2/1854 in NC. He married Sarah Stuart. I am not aware that he is a son of Simeon, but his age makes this a possibility.
I have also communicated with Mary Jane Stallworth, a descendant: mjstall@truvista.net.
