[5984] Esther was born raised at Caanan, CT. In 1790, as a young maiden lady, she moved with her mother and step-father to Vermont. They travelled by wagon to Whitehall by boat and then on to Starksboro. She then rode via horseback over rough road, balancing herself on a man's saddle. A fallen tree which had fallen across the path caused her horse to leap over the log. She did not lose her balance but lost her bonnet. Dr. William B. Marsh, a physician accompanying them, restored her bonnet which began their courtship and marriage.
