'History of the Bingham written by Mary Bingham Kinsley' (ca. 1889): "He was a clergyman but never settled as a pastor but preached as an Evangelist and Missionary performing a vast amount of labor in distitute places in Vermont and other parts of New England and also in the State of Virginia but being an outspoken antislavery man was advised by friends in that State to 'go North' for his own safety. He lived for the remainder of his life in Philadelphia, Pa. working for the better observance of the Sabbath and at one time preaching to the prisoners in the Penitentiary.
