Known as 'Poppy' to his grand children
CAREER: at abt age 13 got a job as Office Boy in a wholesale cheese and produce firm; in time advanced to Shipping Clerk. At age 19 was hired as Cashier in the New York office of Milmine, Bodman & Co., a Baltimore grain firm. He worked there from 1884-1900 In 1901 he purchased a seat on the New York Stock Exchange for $75,000 In 1925 he sold the seat for $125,000 and retired.
