"Calvin Bingham was deacon of the old First Church at Bennington, and his regularity and punctuality at public worship were proverbial. He was a farmer and spent his life at Bennington."
"Rev. Hiram Bingham, in a letter of May 23, 1860, says, "Of the family of 13 children, 10 are still living, all members of orthodox churches, of whom there are 7 sons, the youngest 65 years of age; of these two are clergymen, two physicians and two deacons."
BIOGRAPHY: 'History of the Bingham written by Mary Bingham Kinsley' (ca.
1889): 'The farms purchased by his [their father, Joseph's] sons, where his last years were spent, (now owned and occupied by F.B. Jennings) lies about two miles from the field on which was fought Aug 16th 1777 the "Battle of Bennington". His [Joseph's] son Jeremiah was in the "Battle" but Calvin the youngest came to bring his aged parents and his young wife to Bennington Centre, where these and other helpless ones spent much of the day in the offering of prayer to the God of battles, who gave the victory to their sons & brothers; so that they returned in joy to the homes they left in doubt & fear.'
