Major Pomeroy inherited from his father the "Red Tavern" in Northampton, originally Col. Ebenezer Pomeroy's [his grandfather's] dwelling and farm house. After Maj. Pomeroy's decease, his widow continued the business and maintained the celebrity of the tavern. The present handsome Romanist church edifice in Northampton occupies the site of the "Red Tavern".
