"the Doughty Family ...":
he '... came to ... New York whre [he] begaan a business in lumber, which increased til his transactions were among the largest in the city. He was an Episcopalian, attending St. George's Chapel, corner of Beekman [?] and Cliff Streets. After his marriage, he attached himself to the Collegiate Dutch Reformed Church, and was elected one of the elders of that wealthy Corporation.
...He continued the lumber business, til the war with England in 1812, put a stop to his trade with the British W. I. Islands, during the latter part of the time his son Edward was his partner. He declined a resumption of business after the peace of 1815, and spent his latter days in retirement. He had many attached friends and when he died ... his loss was deplored in a manner quite unusual.'
Burial: cf notes for his brother Jacob

This Elihu was also known as "Elihu, the younger." According to an internet source, Elihu & Martha lived in Shaftsbury, VT in 1766 on the Ebenezer Cole Tract. However, another source says that he died Abt. this time in Sherman, CT. Shaftsbury, VT was then known as Queensbury, located in Warren Co., NY Province.
In the Abbe Tree appearing with FTM, it states that Elihu, who was in New Milford, was removed to Sherman, CT, where he resided until his death.
A LDS entry has Elihu's birth as 9/17/1737.
