The direct male line ended by the death, in 1781, without issue, of John, Master of Pitsligo, son of the 4th Lord, who was attainted for accession to rebellion in 1445. In 1833 Sir Charles Forbes, the Baronet of Newe & Edinglassie, was served nearest lawful heir - male in general to Alexander the 3rd Lord Forbes of Pitsligo, father of him who was attainted'
