Graduated at Middlebury College in 1816, and at Andover Theological Seminary in 1819. Was a missionary abroad. Sailed to Sandwich Islands 28 Oct 1819, and remained 21 years. Arrived again in New York, 4 Feb 1841. Living in New Haven, Conn., 1865.

BURIAL: "Sybil's Bones" by A.M. Bingham; "The Bingham Family in the United States..." vol 2., p. 56 lists burial at 'North Church Cemetery, near Yale University in the south corner near Dr. Dutton's grave, corner of Grove and College Streets.'
American Board of Missions sent him, with others, to found the first Protestant mission in the Hawaiian Islands. Bingham adapted the Hawaiian language to writing, published Elementary Lessons in Hawaiian (1822), and, with his associates, translated the Bible into Hawaiian. Bibliography: See his A Residence of Twenty-one Years in the Sandwich Islands (1847, 3d ed. rev. 1969).
